DIY: Tree Jewelry Hanger

So this is my second DIY. I had been meaning to find a solution to storing my jewelry. Jumbling everything in a bowl just wasn’t working for me. I had seen someone use a manzanita branch as a place to hang jewelry. I didn’t have the time to go out and find the perfect manzanita branch. I just trimmed a few branches out of my back yard. You can use branches from Trader Joe’s or any other grocery store floral section. Spring is the perfect time to find them. So here’s how you make a Tree Jewelry Hanger:

1. Find some supple but strong branches with lots of smaller branches off of them so you will have many options for hanging jewelry.

2. Find an empty vase and fill with several bags of white beans, or any other type of bean you like the look of. Mung beans are a beautiful green shade but you have to find those at a health food store or an asian market.

3. Once you have filled the vase with the beans put your branches into the beans where you want them you can start hanging your jewelry.

4. Start hanging your jewelry. Depending on the strength of the branches this may be a delicate process but you can hang the heavier pieces on the larger branches and the lighter pieces on the smaller branches. Since I am doing a post about my jewelry hanger I thought I would show a few of my favorite pieces of jewelry. This first one was made for me by my friend Allyson Baker. She took pictures of my children’s profiles and made me this wonderful shillouette necklace. My oldest Corin is in the bottom pendant, the second pendant is double sided with one of the twins on each side. I LOVE this necklace. If you are interested you can check them out in her Etsy Store.

The second one is one I made. The tiny journal I purchased from a fellow artist on Etsy and dear friend Michal Strawbridge. She hand stitched 56 pages into this delicate journal pendant. I then added the feathers. I haven’t figured out what to write yet on the blank pages of the journal but I will come up with something good.
